Amanda Virginia Sealey, a Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Cousin, God-Mother, Friend, Educator, Mentor, Counselor and so much more, was called home to be with our Heavenly Father on Tuesday afternoon, April 19, 2022, after a courageous fight with Non-Hogkins T-Cell Lymphoma cancer. As a beautiful child of God, she loved and was loved by so many. Her fight was not alone. As she took her journey home, Amanda was surrounded by her loved ones, family, and friends.

Amanda was born on October 9th, 1980, in San Diego, California, to Reginald Morris Sealey and Julette Ann Sealey. Amanda or Auntie Panda (her nephews loved to call her) and Parker (her college friends called her) grew up in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. At an early age she was involved in all types of activities including tap dancing, gymnastics, pom poms, and softball.
Amanda graduated from Frederick Douglass Senior High School with the Class of 1998. During her high school years, she played the flute in the band, played on the softball team, and was in the Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC). She later attended ‘THE’ Delaware State University and graduated in 2003 with a degree in Community Health Acquisition and Grants Management. To further her education, Amanda completed her Master of Arts degree in Mental Health Counseling from Trinity Washington University in 2014.

Amanda crossed at the Delta Pi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in 2004. Overtime, she served in various positions including Basileus, Second Anti-Basileus, and Hodegos. She also served on the following committees: Targeted Committees as Chair of the Black Family, Chair of Health, Chair of Sisterly Relations, and a Member of the Nominating Committee. She was also a Member of the Prince George’s County Junior League and led the creation of the Archives Committee.

She began her professional career at Surrattsville High School as a Health Teacher and later served the Maryland Health Department as an Alcohol & Drug Abuse Prevention Specialist. She returned to the Prince Georges County School System as a teacher at Walker Mill Middle School. Amanda later became a Professional School Counselor for an Alternative High School, and then later joined the staff at Suitland High School.
Amanda enjoyed life to the fullest and her interest ran the gamut! She loved to travel and was the first one packed for the next girl’s trip. She enjoyed all kinds of music, fine dining and her Starbucks coffee. She especially loved her nephews Reggie III and Darian, and her godchildren Makeida, William ‘Tres’, Samuel, Savannah, and Troy. She constantly celebrated her family and friends with love, fought for her students, and served the community with honor and distinction.

Amanda gave her life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at Antioch Baptist Church in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. She was a committed and faithful Christian who loved the Lord. She attended Destiny International Christian Center in Suitland, MD. She also attended a year-long Queen Esther Discipleship program at the First Baptist Church of Glenarden, which disciples’ today’s women for tomorrow.
