Clifton (Cliff) Charles Lucas, Jr. peacefully entered into the presence of His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 1, 2023. He was born on January 6, 1942 in Washington, D.C., to the late Clifton Charles Lucas, Sr., and the late Corrine Pollard Lucas.

As a native Washingtonian, Cliff attended and graduated from DC schools; including the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) where he majored in electrical engineering. His electrical engineering background would then carry him into a full career of over 30 years as an engineering and maintenance technician for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.

Cliff met the love of his life, Patricia Joyce Bradley at the tender age of 17. He would say that she took his breath away, and that it was love at first sight. Three years later in 1962, Cliff and Patricia surrendered to the power of true Love, and consecrated their union in marriage. His nicknames for Patricia were Trish, doll face, and baby girl. Cliff was fiercely faithful and committed to his wife for 60 years, and together they had four children. Cliff was a wonderful provider to his wife and children, and taking care of his wife was his top priority. He loved his wife and children with every ounce of his heart.

During his life, he enjoyed singing, and would later form singing groups. Cliff was a part of a doo-wop group when he briefly served in the Air Force, and later formed two gospel singing groups, one of which included his wife Patricia, and daughter Sherri. Cliff was also a History buff, and could have easily been a History teacher or Historian. He was a human encyclopedia when it came to history, as well as some science, and he loved going to museums. Cliff also had a strong interest in reptiles; especially dinosaurs and turtles. In addition, he was very fascinated with frogs that he would have decorative frogs throughout the house. He would also include them in his family’s holiday tradition by telling his children that the presents came from the “gift frog.” Cliff was a big kid at heart, and loved to laugh and act silly with his children. He also loved playing video games, watching and collecting movies, and occasionally going on boat rides with his brother Edward Allen Lucas (Allen).

More importantly, Cliff was a spirit filled believer of Jesus Christ. He served as a Deacon, and minister of God’s Word throughout his life. In addition, God called he and his wife to serve in ministry together. He didn’t just believe in God, but he closely followed God’s Word, and also taught the Word of God to anyone that crossed paths with him. So many people, including his wife and children, were impacted by his Bible teachings on having faith in God, and remaining steadfast in His Word. He loved every part of God’s Word, and his three favorite people in the Bible were Abraham, Moses, and Paul. Cliff had an unwavering and uncompromising faith in God in EVERY area of his life, and in every circumstance. He had an Abraham type of Faith! He believed God, trusted God, praised and worshipped God until his very last day on earth.

Cliff was preceded in death by his parents Clifton Charles Lucas, Sr., and Corrine Pollard Lucas, as well as his one and only brother Edward Allen Lucas. He is survived by his wife Patricia Joyce Lucas; four children, Marvin Antony Lucas, Sundae Tracy Sayles (Earnest), Sherri Dominique Lucas, and Shanelle Gabrielle Cash (James); eight grandchildren, Ashley B. Smith, Markis Branden Sayles, Lashanta Devora Lucas, Earnest Sayles, III (Tre), Terrell De'Andre Sayles, Jalen Donnell Cash, Jordan Gabriel Cash, Anthony Dominic Reeves, and two great grandchildren. One niece, Allette D. Hannon, a spiritual son, Sean Joyner, and a host of other relatives and friends.
