Cora was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Laura (Johnson) and Lubie Christion on February 1, 1944. She was the oldest of seven and protective over her siblings. They looked up to her as a second mom. Her parents and three siblings, Portia Watson (Leon), Lubie Jr. and Clyde Christion (Ellen), preceded her in death.

Cora attended Wendell Phillips High School in Chicago and sang in the choir. She graduated high school in 1962 and eventually earned an associate’s degree in business from Wilson Jr. College. Her first daughter, Laura, was born July 19, 1968. Cora’s career gave her the ability to see the world, taking her to Hawaii and then to Los Angeles, where she relocated in the ’70s. There she met and married Robert L. Holliday on December 8, 1979. Robert preceded her in death in 2002. They had one daughter, Myette Holliday.

In the ’80 she started her career in the legal field as a word processing operator, eventually becoming a supervisor. She joined Greater Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles and became an active member by serving as an usher and assistant supervisor for the junior usher board for 10 years.

She moved to Maryland in 1998 to be closer to her grandbaby, Alia Jackson. While in Maryland she continued her career as a word processing operator until she retired in June 2007. As a retiree, she shifted career paths and became a licensed childcare teacher at Largo Community Ministries After School Program for 9 years. She eventually went back to working in the legal field as a court transcriptionist for CompuScribe/Audio Associates until she finally decided to enjoy retirement.

Cora had a great sense of humor and style. She was always willing to share herself with others and inspire people to see things outside of the box. We will remember her caring heart, patience, and ability to listen without judgment.

Cora departed this life on Wednesday, December 21, 2022.

She leaves to mourn two daughters, Laura (Christion) Jackson, and Myette Holliday; three brothers, Alan Ladd Christion (Priscilla), Sylvester Christion (Cheryal), and Anthony Christion (Vickie); bonus daughters Valencia Becton and Rochelle Allen; granddaughters Shanay, Aaisha, Mia and Alia; and a host of family and friends all over the country
