On Friday, September 2, 2022, the death angel whispered to our beloved Dennis, “Come home my child, the race is done, the victory is won, there is rest and peace awaiting you.”
Dennis was born on January 29, 1950 in Washington, DC. He was the second child of the late Colonel Mumford and Mildred Barnett Armstrong. Dennis attended DC public schools but received his GED while serving in the U.S. Navy with an honorable discharge in 1971. Dennis was a determined and hard worker. He began his working career at the U.S. Postal Service as a Mail Carrier. He maintained his entrepreneurial attitude throughout his working career. He worked in several areas of concentration which included managerial positions, instructor and professional driver, and law enforcement (D.C. Metropolitan Police Department and the Department of Justice as a U.S. Deputy Marshall).
Of his first marriage to Angela Armstrong, one daughter was born, Kim Marie.
After a courtship, Dennis and Loretta were joined in Holy Matrimony on September 17, 1994 in Washington, DC.
Cochise, his faithful companion preceded him in death. Cochise could always be found at Dennis’ side and could always get Dennis on his feet and was able to get Dennis to walk.
Dennis was creative and eager to experience new ideas. He had patented three of his creative ideas. He had several hobbies which included a good game of chess and was a true golf enthusiast. His favorite football team was the Washington Commanders.
Dennis enjoyed nothing better than a spirited political discussion and his favorite time in the evening was watching old TV sitcoms and MSNBC and arguing with the commentators about their opinions and views on world events.
Upon his passing, it was discovered that he had written long letters and journals to God. Dennis was baptized at Zion Baptist Church in Washington, DC at a very young age. Dennis loved God and spent long hours seeking and meditating on God’s Word.
In addition to his loving and devoted wife of 28 years, Loretta L. Armstrong, he leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Kim Marie (Gregory); one sister, Deborah Armstrong; two brothers, Derek Armstrong and Clifton Meade (Adrian); seven grandchildren, Di`Onte, Austin, Marquette, Imani, Charia, Destiny, and Gregory; four great grandchildren, Daniah, Davion,
London, and Paris; one mother-in-law, Lorell Lovelace; one aunt, Lucretia (Theodore); one brother-in-law, Baker L. Lovelace (Selma); one sister-in-law, Carolyn Bowen; three God daughters, Nikia, Ashli, and Layla; one God son, Frank; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers Colonel, David and Donald.
