Donald Newton Smith was born in Baltimore, Maryland on February 10, 1935, to the late John and Eunice Snowden Smith. Donald was surrounded by his loving family at his home in Greenbelt, MD when God called him to his eternal home in Heaven on November 12, 2022. “Lefty” or “Grandpa” as he was affectionately known was the youngest of two children. He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years of marriage, Gertrude W. Smith, as well as one son, two daughters and one son-in-law. His oldest son preceded him in death. He also leaves to mourn five grandchildren (one preceded him in death), six great grandchildren, one great great grandchild as well as a host of relatives and friends. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at Greater Mt. Nebo AME Church, 1001 Old Mitchellville Road, Bowie, Maryland: Visitation at 10 am; Service at 11 am. The Interment will follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, 900 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD.
