Ernest Devin Burns, son of Ernest B. Burns and Myrtle Louise Johnson Burns, was born June 28, 1948 in Washington, DC. He departed this life on July 2, 2022.

Devin, as he was called by family and many friends, was educated in the public schools of the Washington Metropolitan area and graduated from Northwestern Senior High School in Hyattsville, MD in 1966. He was baptized as a youth at Third Baptist Church in Washington, DC.

He worked at several jobs including Howard University where he taught bowling, at Bendix Cooperation and S & H Kress with his mother before getting a job in the warehouse at Giant Food. He later became a warehouse manager and retired from that position in 2009 after nearly 40 years of service.

Devin met his first wife, Beverly Doom, while working at Kress and they were married in 1971. They had two children, Brooke Hillary and Paul Kenneth. In the late 1980s, while participating in a bowling league he met Bonnie Davis. They were married in 1991 and had one daughter, Danielle Dionne.

Devin had many loves including his convertible cars, listening to old school music as well as old radio detective programs and playing, chess, bid whist and pinochle. He was an avid reader of science and historical fiction and watcher of Gunsmoke, MSNBC and Rachel Maddow. Once retired, Devin enjoyed spending time with his former Giant coworkers, cruising, going to the Davis Family Reunions, attending his grandson’s basketball and baseball games and taking naps with his granddog Periwynkle.

Devin was predeceased by his parents and brother Malcolm Schuyler. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Bonnie Davis Burns; children Brooke, Paul (Tina) and Danielle; grandson Gabriel D. Gilchrist; brother Kenneth Loren we Burns (Nadine); sister in law Joyce McNeil (Willie) and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, Godchildren and friends.
