Obituary for E. Joyce Perry

E. Joyce Perry, affectionately known as “JP” was born on February 22, 1942, in Washington, DC to the late Plummer Lee Harrington, Sr. and Clarrissia Simmons Harrington. She was named after her late maternal grandmother Essie Simmons and was the eldest of six siblings.

Joyce grew up in Washington, DC and was educated in the DC Public School system where she received her diploma from Roosevelt High School. After graduating, Joyce began her career in the federal government with the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC. Shortly thereafter, she joined the U.S. Census Bureau in Suitland, MD, where she worked for 30 years until her retirement.

After embarking on her new career, Joyce found love and married the late Reginald “Chub” Perry, with whom they shared two wonderful children Keith and Regina.

Joyce loved the Lord and confessed her life to Christ at an early age. In 1985, Joyce found her new purpose and re-dedicated her life to Christ while a member of the New Macedonia Baptist Church in Washington, DC. She later found a new church home at From the Heart Church Ministries in Temple Hills, MD, where she became a dedicated and faithful member.

Some of Joyce’s favorite pastimes were drinking English teas, reading mystery novels, mastering crossword puzzles, traveling abroad, trying a new recipe, and collecting vintage teapots.

Joyce loved her family with a passion and enjoyed getting together for family gatherings for any reason. She was immensely proud of her grandsons Brandon and Bryan and doted on them to friends and strangers alike.

Joyce was a sparkling and burning light whose spirit will live on in all those she touched. We will forever be grateful for her presence in our lives.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory – a loving son Keith Swann; devoted daughter Regina Perry, grandsons Brandon and Bryan Fields; two sisters Crystal Harrington Fludd (Neil) and Angela Harrington; three brothers Plummer Harrington, Jr., Preston Harrington, and Tony Martin; four nieces Adream Hughley (Aishah), Malika Wilson, Regina Moore, and Rhongelyn Moore Narh; nephew Tracey Harrington; uncle William (Harold) Simmons and Aunt Mary Simmons; best friend & sister Valerie Brown; and a host of relatives and friends.
