Obituary for Joyce Bernadine Graham (Farrell)
Joyce B. Graham, daughter of the late Julia and Mercyle Farrell, was born on August 7th, 1945 in Washington, D.C.
Joyce was raised in Washington, D.C and attended Margaret Murray Washington Vocational High School. She met the love of her life Robert E. Graham Sr. in 1956, and they married in 1963. This union brought three beautiful children: Robert E. Graham Jr., Germill Graham(deceased) and LaShawn Graham.
In 1965, they purchased their first home and relocated to Seat Pleasant, MD. After relocating, Joyce accepted a position with the DC Government Child and Family Services Agency as a Resource Development Specialist. She truly enjoyed her work that was geared toward protecting the well-being of the youth. She dedicated 42 years in service and retired in 2010.
Joyce was a Christian woman and joined First Baptist Church of Highland Park located in Landover, MD in 2008. She served on the Nursing Unit and was a very faithful member. She enjoyed attending Sunday Service and encouraging her family and friends to keep their faith in God.
Joyce was very active in her community. She served as a Girl Scout Leader for 15 years which her husband devoted to supporting her. She led multiple charitable efforts to include: Christmas Stocking Drive for under privileged children, Lupus Foundation donations, Boarder Babies Drive and many others. She loved to fellowship and bring others together. She also led multiple social groups to include: Women’s Social Club, Birthday Club, Payday Pool and a host of other groups. Robert and Joyce hosted many family functions that everyone looked forward to every year. They would open their home to everyone as family. Anyone in need, she never turned away. She was a matriarch in her family, and many called her Mom, even those she did not birth.
She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory: her husband Robert E. Graham Sr., her son Robert E. Graham Jr., her daughter LaShawn Graham, siblings Bernetta Farrell, Michael Farrell, Valerie Winley, grandchildren Lovesha Graham, Robert Graham IV, LaShawn Hill (Nunu), great grandchildren Jalayah Graham, LaNiyah Davis, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
