Kevin Spence, beloved son of Ernest and Ella Mae Spence, peacefully transitioned into eternal rest Wednesday, November 23, 2022.

Born July 1, 1963, Kevin nestled neatly into the number nine slot of eleven siblings. The elder siblings provided Kevin with the full armor of love, protection and support needed for a young man of his generation in the Washington Metropolitan area. The younger siblings, Too (Allen), and David, plus nephew Sean, fostered and cemented Kevin’s devotion to, and love of, family and togetherness in the biggest and smallest of ways. They shared regular Sandy Point beach days, fishing in waters clear and not so clear, the thrill of amusement parks, full throttle basketball competition, and yes, years of the Madden PlayStation, Xbox era.

Kevin received his formal education through the Prince George’s County Public School System. Intrigued by the nuances and opportunity in the hospitality industry, Kevin pursued a career in culinary arts and restaurant management. Over a 30-year time span, Kevin progressed through the full range of front-of-house and back-of-house restaurant management. He led partnered with co-workers and led as head Chef and eventually Assistant General Manager within the El Torito, Chi Chi’s, and Hooter restaurant franchises. After leaving the fast-paced life of restaurant management, Kevin continued to deliver his unique blend of customer service part-time at Lowes.

Kevin met and married Earline, affectionately known as Lovey, on October 28, 1995. The two shared a lifelong love and friendship. Their union birthed Jaylen C. and Juwan C. Although God called their youngest, Juwan, home early the two were privileged to shower every measure of their love on Jaylen as he transitioned from their “Number One Baby Boy” to Staff Sergeant Spence with the Mortuary Affairs Specialist and Force Support Operational units of the United States Air Force.

The typical quiet-mannered Kevin would raise the roof during a Maryland Terrapin or Washington Redskins (Commanders)game. Poke Keno, and a competitive game of spades during his weekly family gatherings also fueled a much more spirited voice from the calm tone he is known for.
His greatest passion lived in his love of marine life. He enjoyed full ocean boating trips as much as throwing a rod in local waters with his shadow, Jaylen, in tow. Beyond their regular rod-n-reel outings, the two built aquatic worlds for both fresh and saltwater tanks.

Parents, Ernest, and Ella Mae Spence; son, Juwan Spence; sister Paulette Spence; brothers, Robert and Allen Spence; and mother-in-law Elizabeth Harris have already welcomed Kevin to his heavenly home with open arms.
Kevin’s beloved, Earline Spence; son, Jaylen Spence; sister, Deborah Gaines (Frank), brothers, Ernest (Andrea), Michael (Loretta), Marvin (Lillie), Ricky, Andre; sisters-in-law Deborah Harris and Angela Benthall; brother-in-law Edward Benthall (Kellie); and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces will continue to celebrate the legacy of Kevin.
Lifetime friends and fellow workers will celebrate Kevin by modeling his strong work ethic and compassionate leadership.
