Kim Marie McNutt born June 13, 1957 in Norwalk, Connecticut to the late James McNutt and Patricia Tapscott. On January 4, 2023 she entered peacefully into eternal rest. Kim was preceded in death by her parents James McNutt and Patricia Tapscott.

Kim was a military brat alongside her brother, Kevin, and as a result of their father’s service in the U.S. Air Force the family spent time living abroad in Japan and the Netherlands.

After the family moved to Washington, D.C., she matriculated through the D.C. Public School System and graduated in 1975 from Anacostia High School. Thanks to enough credits to graduate early, she started working with the D.C. Government’s Work Study Program at Saint Elizabeths Hospital in 1974 in the Personnel Department. Kim also attended Howard University and earned credits while pursuing a full-time career working for the Federal Government.

Her focus within the Federal Government changed in June of 1987, when she began working in the Department of Education where she would remain until she retired in 2012 as a Supervisory Human Resources Specialist. Over the course of her career Kim received numerous Special Act Awards and Performance Awards for her professional performance and kindness.

Kim was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to those she loved. She was known for striking up a conversation with just about anyone with a smile on her face. Her network of friends spanned her entire life from people she met during her childhood years to colleagues from the workplace and even friends of friends. She was strong, intelligent, and had an uncanny sense of humor and quick wit. She could make you laugh whether you were feeling up or down.

Kim’s mother’s house was a place where her friends would gather for food and fellowship. Kim was a die-hard Washington Football fan and loved a good steak, lobster and crab cakes from her favorite restaurants. She loved to travel, especially to the Caribbean. She island hopped in fine fashion from Jamaica, St. Thomas, Aruba, and St. Maarten just to name a few. Kim's favorite place of all, her home away from home, was Nassau, Bahamas. She introduced her love for travel and for the Bahamas to her nieces and goddaughter at a young age. She loved the clear blue waters across the Caribbean and shared many of those trips with family and friends. She even organized a “big girls” trip in 2017 which featured four decades of ladies that made up her friends and family. Kim gave the trip the slogan “20’s to 80’s: Celebrating Four Decades of Sisterhood and Friendship.” A great time was had by all. Kim’s ultimate goal was to bring people together to create memories that would last a lifetime. Kim was the glue that held her friends together, what a blessing.

Kim’s loves also included her furry friend, Guy, who was her companion for many years. She was also an avid reader and had a love for writing, a passion she hoped to share with the world.

In the last few years, Kim sought a greater relationship with God and became more reflective of her life and wanted to know more about Christ. She routinely attended virtual church services and discussed the impact of the word shared with her friends.

Left to cherish her memory are her brother Kevin McNutt (Desiree), step-brother Bruce Tapscott (Rosita), step-sister Darline Brumfield (James), nieces Monica and Melanie McNutt, goddaughter Tammy Sunday-Sanchez (Luis), and a host of other family and sister-friends
