On January 13, 2023, Mable “Jenny” Jenkins Miles got her wings to walk with angels and be with her darling husband in heaven. With family by her side, she passed away peacefully at the medical center in Largo, Maryland, at 77 years old.

Mable always found a reason to celebrate, and her birth was no different. Bringing fireworks two days early; she was born on July 2, 1945, in Portsmouth, Virginia to Joseph and Elnora White Jenkins. As a proud graduate of R. C. Norcum High School’s class of 1963, Mable joined the U. S. Army, and served four years active duty until she met the love of her life, Wilbert, affectionately known as Dean. As an exceptional wife of 53 years, a doting mother of three boys, and the preferred cook in her community, Mable retired from her civil service role after dedicating 30 to the federal government.

She could often be found watching an adventure movie, while cooking enough food for the neighborhood. Yet, she’ll be best remembered for being on the phone counseling a family member or friend, while standing in the kitchen baking a cake for someone she’d just met.

Although she never missed an opportunity to spend time with her beloved sons; the hobby of spoiling her grandchildren, along with the skill of getting under their dad’s skin, was a practiced source of joy, and her favorite pastime! Their constant protests and grumbles didn’t inhibit or bother her one bit, because they went in one ear, and out the other (lol). Mable, tenderly coined Jenny, proudly claimed her maternal gloriousness until her last breath.

Mable is predeceased by her husband Wilbert Dean Miles, Sr. and four sisters, Diane Hines, Iris Hollis, Helen Desouza, and Joyce Joseph.

She leaves to cherish her memory: three sons, Wilbert Dean Miles, Jr. (Lillian) of California, David Lee Miles (Nicole) of Maryland, Brian Miles (Lenore) of North Carolina, one stepdaughter, Terry Wicker, two sisters, Elmarie Johnson and Dorthey Harvey, and two brothers Joseph Jenkins, Jr. and Larry Jenkins. She’s also survived by her eleven grandchildren: Victoria, Brandon, Brielen, Zoe, Cameron, Yasmeen, Andre, Morgan, Madison, Devin, Rita, and one great-grandchild, Xian, along with a host of family members and friends.
