Mildred Chappelle Williams was born on November 10, 1923 to the late Belton and Janie Chappelle in Washington, D.C. Growing up in Deanwood NE, she shared her formative years with her three siblings-James (Stanley) Chappelle, Edward Chappelle, Sr., and Gladys Chappelle Freeman. Ms. Chappelle Williams taught K-5studens in the D.C. school system for over 15 years, having graduated from Miner Teacher’s college with a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts in education from New York University. Later in her career, she became involved in the D.C. real estate market as a licensed agent, joining organizations such as the Washington, D.C. Association of Realtors, Inc and strengthening her involvement in the black community of realtors and homeowners across the city. She continued the tradition of her parents who preceded her striving towards generational wealth in the racially challenging landscape of the district city and practicing generosity to all those she met through the years, her family being the primary beneficiaries.

Her life and legacy of kindness, joy, education and perseverance lives on in the lives of those she loved. She leaves to mourn her sister Gladys Chappelle Freeman, nieces Stanese Chappelle and Dr. Marla Freeman Boyd, nephews James Chappelle and Dr. Edward Chappelle II, sister-in-law Mary Rose Chappelle, great nieces Noelle Boyd and April Chappelle, great nephew Edward Chappelle, III and other relatives and friends.
