Obituary for Montague Jerome Shepherd

Montague (Monty) Jerome Shepherd, was born to the union of the late William and Ophia Shepherd. Monty was born on May 6,1926 and departed this life on May 24, 2022. He finished his course; he fought a good fight and was called home to join his Heavenly Band of Angeles.

He was educated in the Washington, DC Public School system where he graduated from Armstrong High School in 1943. He was a featured running back on the football team for 3 years.

Monty joined the U.S. Army on October 25,1945. He was deployed to Germany during World War II and received The Army World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal.

Upon completion of his military service in 1947, Monty went to work for the US. State Department. He later met and married the love of his life, Celestine Page Williams. They were married January 9, 1960. That union lasted until Celestine departed to be with the Lord on December 19th, 2008. They were together for 48 years. There were two sons from this union: Jerome Vincent Shepherd and Montague Octavious Shepherd.

Monty was very active in the community. One of his passions was coaching and mentoring young men. He coached Boys Club football for over 7 years and was still active in the Boy Scouts and the Community Parks and Planning programs until he was in his mid-eighties.

Monty became a member of Woodstream Baptist Church on April 22, 2001, until present.

Monty leaves to cherish his memories his children, Jerome (Annette) Shepherd, Montague (Cynthia) Shepherd, Montalyn Shepherd Smith. Grandchildren Tayler, Michael, Joshua, Kenneth, Linette, Rachelle, Derrick, along with an abundance of nieces ,nephews, great grandchildren, other family members and friends.
