On November 25,1928, Nathaniel (“Nat”) Nicholas McKan was born to the late Nathaniel N. McKan, Sr. and the late Daisey Varrett, in New Orleans, Louisiana. On June 4, 2022, he entered into eternal rest and was given his wings to be with the Lord. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Gloria Willis and Joyce Makel.

Nat’s childhood was filled with fun and happy times with family and friends in Louisiana and Mississippi. Nat graduated high school and joined the Navy in 1945. Upon his discharge, he settled in Washington, D.C. Nat was a longtime, dedicated Federal Government employee for over 40 years, working in the Logistics Department of the Army Map Service Corps, U.S. Army. Never one to be idle, after his retirement from the Government, he worked for the Post Office for over 10 years. In his younger years, his passions were baseball, motorcycles and Ford trucks and cars. If it was a Ford, he could fix it. Once he settled in Washington, D.C. area, he became an ardent Washington Redskins/WFT fan, encouraging his team even in a 1/15 season. Nat was a wise and compassionate man who will be truly missed.

Nathaniel N. McKan leaves to celebrate his life, cherish his memory and expand his legacy: longtime companion, Jean Miller; best friend, Jimmy Thorne (Laverne, deceased); children, Nathaniel D. McKan, Dirk C. McKan (Francine, deceased), Kenneth McKan (Rose Rogers), LaVerne McKan Tucker ( Lawrence B., Jr.), Eric McKan (Denise), Cynthia McKan, Darlene Miller, Arlene Miller Weaver (Willie Weaver), Constance Miller, Arthur Miller (Elsie), Richard Miller; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
