FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS

Remembering Nicky

Nicolette Delphina Hill was born on February 13, 1964, in Washington, District of Columbia (D.C.) to Mr. Lloyd H. Hill and Mrs. Helen M. Hill.

To meet Nicolette, or Nicky as she was affectionately called, was to meet a friend. She never met a stranger. Nicky could talk to anyone, as it was easy given her personality which was born from being the true middle child of three siblings.

Nicky received her education in the state of Maryland, and her high school diploma from Bowie High School in June 1982. After high school, Nicky met Antoine Bennaugh, which born Nicky’s first blessing, her daughter Marie Antoinette Hill. Later, Nicky met and married Johnny Wesley Gallman, Jr., in June 1991. Although this union did not last, it born her second blessing, her son Johnny Wesley Gallman, III (aka Lil Johnny).

Nicky began her career as an Administrative Assistant at the Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C. This career fulfilled her and provided her financial stability and security to raise her family. After 36 years of Federal Government service, she retired from her duties as part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) division of the Department of Commerce in 2016. Retirement allowed Nicky the opportunity to spend more time doing the things she loved which included family gatherings, spoiling her grandchildren, watching her Lifetime Movies, soap operas, game shows, and old reruns of sitcoms (e.g., Good Times).

To know Nicky, was to know she was the LIFE OF THE PARTY, especially at Family Reunions. If she was in the building, she made her presence well known! Nicky was lovingly known for “cracking” jokes on any and everyone, and her happy disposition. Everyone knew how knowledgeable she was when it came to sports. Her favorite athletes were Venus and Serena Williams (tennis) and Max Scherzer (baseball). While she also loved boxing, you had to know that she was an avid and staunch Washington Redskins superfan! Listen, do not battle her over her beloved Washington Redskins and think you’d win!

Nicky was always about family and showered them with the utmost love and affection. She loved having family around her and especially spending precious time with her grandchildren. On Sundays, Nicky prepared huge meals for her family and expected everyone to be on time for dinner; but also, be ready to leave in an hour!

Nicky leaves to cherish her memories, two children: Marie Antoinette Hill and Johnny Wesley Gallman, III (Maia). Nicky was preceded in death by her parents Mr. Lloyd H. Hill (2015) and Mrs. Helen M. Hill (2003) who we know are now all happily reunited. Nicky also leaves behind three loving siblings: Edwina D. Hill, Lovell D. Hill (Mary) and Llewellyn D. Hill; five cherished grandchildren: Devon, Mekelah, Daniel, Jordan, and Imani; one great-grandchild: Amour. A host of nieces and nephews, loved ones and friends, including special friends: Sheryl Peterson, Kim Webster, Debra Hughes, and Libby Ward.
