On July 7, 2022, Odell Lucas of Mitchellville, Maryland, transitioned peacefully at home. His wife of 63 years, Emily Lucas, was with him in his final hours.
Odell is also survived by his son, Michael Lucas, daughter, Lisa Lucas, son Bruce Lucas (Monique), and daughter, Velina Wells; Roric “Roy” Wells (“favorite son-in-law”); eight grandchildren – Royale Wells, Brittani Lucas, Bianca Lucas, Ayana Wells, Jordan Wells, Kameron Lucas, Kyle Lucas, and Zoe Lucas; two bonus grandchildren – Antoine Nailing, Sr. and Devin Nailing; two great-grandchildren – Peyton Adams and Micah Staton; five bonus great-grandchildren – Antoine Nailing, Jr., Amari Nailing, Aubrey Nailing, Bailey Nailing and Chauncey Nailing. He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Lene Hymes. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 25, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m., at New Samaritan Baptist Church, 1100 Florida Avenue, N.E., Washington, DC 20002. Interment will be held at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, 8401 Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, Maryland.
Due to COVID restrictions, a repast will not be held.
