Obituary for Pamela Yvonne Sumpter (Sumpter)
On Wednesday March 11, 1970 God blessed Deborah Inez Sumpter and Norman Malcom with Pamela Yvonne Sumpter, their only child. Lovingly called “Pam”, she was the first Grandchild of Roberta Sumpter and first niece of Uncles Larry and Gary Sumpter. Needless to say the Sumpter’s were over the moon in love with the new edition to the family.
On October 10th 1980 Pam’s mother Deborah joined the Lord and Pam was raised by her Grandmother Roberta and Uncles Larry and Gary. Roberta and Larry took Pam to the movies, amusement parks, to the mountains and protected and loved her like a daughter.
Pam attended River Terrace Elementary School, Kimball Elementary School , Carter G. Woodson Junior High, Spingarn High School and received her GED in 1991. She began in the US Federal Government at the Department of Commerce, moved to the Navy Yard, later to the Department of Agriculture and after over 20 years she ended her career as a Program Specialist for the National Science Foundation processing grants, budgets and coordinating panels.
Pamela was an animal lover. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, interior decorating, eating seafood, Reggae Music, Acuras and watching Reality TV shows. Pamela married Deon Matthews in 1997. Her greatest life achievement was the birth and rearing of her 5 beautiful children and one grandson. Tiarra Asa Sumpter 8/15/88, Araebya Le’Deja Sumpter 5/29/91, Katanna Selena Sumpter 7/13/02- 8/11/02, Da’Naja Dionne Matthews 10/10/03-6/1/18, Deon Taj Matthews 6/9/08 and Grandson K’Mari TaJon Morton 10/28/09. Pam loved her girlfriends like Sisters and made them Godmothers to her children; Angel Callahan, Parish (Paris) Green, Kiona Daniels, Lisa Boyd, and Lisa Ensley. Pam leaves behind Daughters Tiarra and Araebya Sumpter, Son Deon Taj Matthews, Grandson K’Mari Morton, Grandmother Roberta Sumpter, Uncle’s Larry Sumpter (Pamela) of Washington, D.C.; Roosevelt E. Sumpter (Sheila) of Atlanta, GA; Keith “TC” Sumpter of
Cleveland, OH; Aunts Pamela Davis of Cleveland, OH; Shalonda Gause of Cleveland, OH. Former Husband Deon Matthews, Cousins Tamara Smalls, Darren Sumpter, Krista Snowden and a host of many cousins, extended family and friends who will miss and love her.
