Sylvia was born February 7, 1955 in Bertie County, North Carolina. to the late Paul
Augustus Bazemore and Helen Hardy Bazemore. At an early age her family relocated
to Washington, D.C. where she attended Matilda Minor Elementary School and later
graduated from Eastern High School. Shortly after graduating Sylvia attended trade
school to learn data entry.
Sylvia was blessed with a baby girl, born Natasha LaShawnda Graves on October 31,
1976. Natasha was her little bundle of joy, and she loved her dearly. She enjoyed being
a mother to her little girl. She always dressed her like a doll with all the bright colorful
outfits and barrettes to match. On January 8, 2004 Natasha passed at the age of 27
after being diagnosed with Congestive Heart Disease.
Sylvia worked at Ginns Office Products Co. in downtown Washington, D.C. for several
years. Ginns moved the company to Hyattsville, MD where she relocated as well. She
continued working at Ginns until becoming employed at Science Management
Corporation. In 2001 she joined Comcast Communications as a customer service rep.
where she worked until 2016.
Sylvia accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at an early age. She joined and was
baptized at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. where she attended Sunday
school and morning service. She was a member there for most of her childhood. In
1993 she frequented Isles of Patmos Baptist Church also in Washington D.C. with her
daughter Natasha. After the passing of her daughter, Sylvia decided to seek a church
closer to her home. She joined Kettering Baptist Church in Upper Marlboro, MD. where
she remained until she became ill.
Sylvia had a smile and chuckle that would light up any room and a sweet personality
unless you rubbed her the wrong way. She didn’t bite her tongue and always spoke
what was on her mind whether you liked it or not. She loved being around her family
and friends, event planning, having a good time which included food, drinks and
smoking the hookah.
Sylvia is preceded in death by her mother, father, Jeanette Laverne Jones(sister) and
Natasha LaShawnda Graves (daughter).
She leaves to cherish her memory, Zoe A. Early (sister) and Don Early (brother-in-law)
of Mitchellville, MD; three nephews, Jerry Early of Largo, MD, Shawn Early of Hanover,
MD and Kenneth Early of Washington, DC; 6 nieces, Monica Saunders, Mona Saunders
