Vernell Blanche Savoy was born to Ernell and Norbert Savoy in Washington, DC on July 19, 1959. Vernell came into this world alongside her twin sister Ernell and joined her older brothers Neal and Tony as a family.

Vernell always said that she had an overall happy childhood. She was a true Daddy's girl and had genuine love and reverence for her Mother. She loved and looked up to her brothers and had a kindred spirit type of relationship with her twin Ernell. She loved to help people and carried herself with dignity and esteem as she grew older. Vernell stayed close to her family into adulthood and ensured that all the values she grew up with were instilled in her own children.

Vernell was a graduate of Bowie High School in 1977 in Prince Georges County, MD. Vernell also attended the Georgetown University school of nursing in 1990 however she did not find her passion in that effort. Vernell later gave birth to her first daughter on July 21, 1979, and her second on July 13, 1981. Ashawnta and Syretta were both the center of Vernell's life and she loved being a mother to her girls. Vernell was a stay-at-home mother until about 1992 when she rejoined the work force by taking on various roles including postal and secretarial work. She eventually settled into a long-term career as an office manager at the Department of Social Services in Maryland. Vernell genuinely loved this work as it allowed her to help women and children through hardships on a routine basis.

Vernell was devoted to her family, supporting her daughters, and worked daily to strengthen her relationship with God. She joined Corinth Baptist Church alongside her Mother and enjoyed attending services with family and friends. Some of her most cherished times were gearing up for a shopping trip with her daughters, having family cookouts and spending the holidays with family and her beloved grandchildren. Vernell will remain in the hearts of all who loved her and that love shared will live on into eternity.

Vernell is preceded in death by her mother Ernell Savoy, father Norbert Savoy, sister Ernell Savoy, brother Tony Savoy and nephew Joseph Savoy. She leaves to cherish in her memory her daughters Ashawnta Savoy and Syretta Harris-Mitchell, her brother Neal Savoy, son in-laws Rico Harris-Mitchell and Will Hailstock, grandchildren Daytavius Christmas, Daymian Christmas, Daisia Christmas, Gianni Harris-Mitchell and George Harris-Mitchell Jr., in-laws Karen Savoy and Felicia Savoy as well as (7) nieces and nephews Keyomi Robinson, Derek Savoy, Neal Savoy II, Antoinette Savoy, Cameron Savoy, Cherita Anderson, Reno Brown and a host of cherished family members and friends.

"Those with which we share love never leave us as they are always at our side.

For there are things that even death cannot touch"
