Obituary for Violet Edith Brown

Violet E. Brown of Washington DC passed away April 15, 2022, at Washington Adventist Hospital after a brief illness. She was 83. Violet was born June 18, 1938 and was the daughter of the late Moses and Adelaide Piper Brown. Violet was a lifelong Washingtonian and graduated from Spingarn High School. She worked for over 40 years for the Chinese Embassy and after her retirement for the Kingsbury school.

When her mother and father each became ill, Violet was their selfless caregiver for many years, providing them with the utmost of expert and loving care. Her devotion to her family was one of the driving forces of Violet’s life, and she loved them all deeply. She loved to remember and share all the good times they had together.

Violet also loved cats. She had several of them over the years and loved to recall stories about them. She was a wonderful cook, and enjoyed sharing her many delicious dishes, including the world’s best potato salad, with her family and friends. Violet was very kind and had a wonderful sense of humor. She enjoyed keeping up with her friends and family, including her many relatives from and living in New Orleans, who she talked with on a regular basis.

Violet is survived by her nephews, Terence (Shelia), Christian (Shana), and Gary (Etoil) Brown and David Augustine (Diane), 6 great nephews, 3 great nieces, sisters-in-laws Adriana and Jan Brown, and many cousins and friends. She had an especially close friendship with her cousin (Esther) Maria Williams. She was preceded in death by her beloved brothers Reuben and Clyde. Violet will be greatly missed.
