Obituary for Wesley Eugene Watkins

Wesley Eugene Watkins was born on April 21, 1935, to the late John and Rena Watkins of Harwood, Maryland. Wesley was raised in Harwood was educated in the Anne Arundel County Public School System. He grew up watching and playing his favorite sport baseball. His spiritual life began at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. He met the love of his life Ellen Jane of sixty-six years. They relocated to Lanham, MD. Wesley was employed by Chaney Enterprises for over 40 years until his retirement. On Fridays, after a long work week; he would always bring sweet treats home for his children. He loved to go to the ballpark to watch the Washington Nationals with his family. He also loved pitching horseshoes with his boys on the weekends.

Wesley was kind, humble and loved to spend time with his family. Always willing to assist anyone that needed assistance with anything. Wesley loved to play checkers and was an avid checker player. Players from around the area would hear about his success, some challenged him to a match. He welcomed anyone that had the audacity to present a challenge. Some would never return to play him again.

Wesley peacefully made his transition from this life to eternity on Sunday, January 15, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. John H. Watkins and Rena A. Watkins, he will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Ellen J. Watkins, one daughter, Iristyne Beale, six sons, Dea. Curtis Watkins (Nina), Carl Watkins (Tamita), Rev. Keith Watkins (Angela), Bruce Watkins (Yvonne), Shondell Watkins and Vondell Watkins; fourteen grandchildren, Juanita Watkins-Gettys (Bruce), Gary Beale, Kina Willingham, Marquita Griffin (Mike), Christina Haskins (Eric), Kierra Jordan (Derrick), Michael Simmons (Ashley), Keisha Smith (Kenny), Cherrita Scott (Durrell), Ajeenah Rogers, Brandi Chavis, Carita Watkins, James Watkins and Justin Watkins; twenty-five great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Six sisters, Ethel Thompson, Laura Salisbury (Dwayne), Sheila, Reid, Emily Turner, Mamie Simms, and Frances Turner (Joseph); two brothers, George Watkins (Josephine), and Joseph Watkins (Regina); He is also survived by a precious aunt, Elizabeth Evans, one devoted great niece Carlesa Peterson many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church family.
